Cloudy Day Quilt

I wanted to try a scrappy trip around the world quilt, but I wanted it to be a curated color pallet.  Inspired by gray clouds and the patches of blue sky, I picked a lot of gray fabric and some solid blues.

I used this tutorial, and simply made sure that the blue was the fabric running from corner to corner.  I arranged it in this wave pattern, with only one blue running across the quilt.  I love how it turned out!

Hexagon Millefiori Quilt Top

Back in 2017, it was too much work to get the sewing machine out every night to sew something, so I started a hand sewing project.  This was just going to be for when we watched TV, for travel, and for waiting rooms.

Of course, 2020 happened, and it became so much more.  It was calming.  It was something I could control.  It was productive.  I could sew and watch the news.  I could sew and visit with people six feet away.  I could sew and relax for a moment.

And before I knew it, the quilt top was done.  I'm working out how I want to attach a border.  Then I think this one needs to be sent to a long-arm for quilting.  So, maybe in another 3 years it will be done.  For now, it's on to the next hand sewing project - hopefully this one won't be as needed for long.

I used this book and the quilt-along here.  I bought my paper pieces here

Sunshine Through The Clouds

I needed something bright and cheerful to work on.  I was thinking of blue skies and sunshine.  It must have been a gray day here.  I pulled a bunch of yellows and blues, and got to work.

The design was inspired by sunshine peeking through the clouds.  The triangles of yellow jumping out from the fields of blue.

Plus, it makes a great color palette for a nursery.

Colorful Baby Quilt

Remember this project?  From the extra fabric in the 24" blocks, I was able to make a stack of half-square triangles.  I didn't want them to go to waste, so I sewed them all up into this cute and colorful baby quilt.

This one is small enough to be used as a stroller or car seat quilt, or a soft layer for tummy time as a playmat.  The bright fabrics will add color to any room it's stored in, and the bright busy patterns encourage babies to explore.  Perhaps more importantly, the busy pattern will hide stains!

Welcome 2021!

I don't think anyone expected a drastic change overnight from 2020, but it still felt good to flip that calendar.  I'm cautiously optimistic for 2021.  No real resolutions, but my main goal is to embrace change, and look for places in my life to improve where I can.

I hope we all use this year to get to a happy, healthy, welcoming normal.

And thank you to my readers for sticking out this year with me.
